Cottage by-the-Sea

Crown Point, San Diego

-The Design Challenge-

This client came to us looking to reimagine the most lived-in spaces of her coastal home in the Crown Point neighborhood of San Diego. Without undertaking a major renovation, the goal was to lean into the charm of the older home - enhancing its warmth and character while creating a space that felt cozy, functional, and effortlessly livable.

Incorporating an ode to the home’s coastal roots was important, but avoiding literal or cliché coastal references was equally important. Instead, we introduced subtle nods to the setting through texture and form: light rattan accents, soft hints of blue, and sculptural sconces inspired by the shape of shells; communicating a coastal sensibility without being overt or themed.
